Dentistry

Dental care is a very important part of maintaining your pets health.

Dental prophylaxis in veterinary medicine is performed under general anesthesia.  The process follows the same techniques as used in human dentistry.  The use of an ultrasonic scaler, plus hand held instruments remove the obvious above the gum line tartar and plaque, plus the not so obvious plaque and infection below the gum line, which if not addressed leads to periodontal disease and resulting tooth loss.

After dental cleaning further dental hygiene can be maintained at home by routine teeth brushing , dental rinses and dental diets. Human tooth pastes can not be used in the dog and cat.
